January 2019 Goals
Here we are – the first day of 2019. A new year full of possibility stretches out in front of us.
“Dig deep wells” was my prayer for all of 2018. Getting married. Becoming mama to two girls. Settling into a new home. Starting a new job. Finding out we’re expecting Baby Boy in spring 2019. All in the span of a few months was quite the roller coaster! But through it all, I heard God say to dig deep. Plant my roots and keep growing, keep doing the next best thing.
With that in mind, Quarter One of this new year is all about quietly and simply planting. I’m learning patience and humility in this season of change, which is so fitting with my word of the year, and hopefully will keep me focused over the next few months.
My Word of the Year is:
Sift
Not a magical or even slightly pretty word – haha! I’ve prayed through my word of the year, along with my intentions for 2019 quite a bit and landed here partially because of the definitions I found:
- Put through a sieve so as to remove lumps or large particles.
- Examine thoroughly so as to isolate that which is most important or useful.
Again, not the prettiest word, but how it resonates with me. This year, I want to take pleasure in the goodness of God around me. To enjoy my home. To slow down and watch my baby grow. To love others well. To tackle goals I’ve had on the list for years. To simplify and cultivate my life, so that it is focused and docile, moving wherever the Spirit takes me and my family.
With these in mind, here’s a snapshot of my January 2019 goals:
Reconnect with God
Tidy up a prayer space just for me.
Listen to more prayerful music throughout the day.
Listen to podcasts in the morning to help start the day off encouraged.
Delight in becoming a mama
Take it one day at a time, savoring these last few weeks before Baby Boy arrives.
Purchase a few baby items I’ve had my eye on.
Enjoy myself at the baby shower at the end of this month.
Simplify our schedule
Start reviewing this year’s calendar with Dustin to see what we can weed out, and what dates we need and want to prioritize.
Create a life-giving home.
Continue to declutter all the things. #nesting π
Set up Baby Boy’s crib this month.
Create a craft and reading corner for the girls.
Finally get pictures up on the walls.
Take care of myself.
Drink more water.
Eat more Ben and Jerry’s ice cream while I can still blame it on the baby. π
Prepare to read six books with the Simplicity Book Club.
Make exercise more of a priority – move more!
Celebrate
Keep cookie dough and coffee + good creamer in stock.
Review the calendar to prioritize dates to commemorate.
Reset our personal finances.
Finish setting up our financial spreadsheets.
Hold monthly budget meetings with Dustin.
Have my most purposeful work year yet!
Continue to work with Jeannette and the gals of Everyday Missionaries.
Set aside intentional time for work goals.
All in all, I have a whopping total of 11 goals for the year, some of which I’ll share more of throughout the year, each with a few action items to help me accomplish them. Honestly speaking, this looks like a lot but each feels just right for this season, and the few action items I’ve assigned to each brings peace and clarity to each individual goal.
2019 is going to be a special year
My hope is to start this year quiet and rooted, to sift through those things placed in front of me, and not be afraid to hold each item up to the light to see if it fits God’s calling for the season I’m in. To listen to, and love those right in front of me.
